Nomadic tribes interest me enormously. The wilderness, the adventure, the migration. Total freedom. To be lived only through the disputes of nature. It intrigues me, that life, the tribes. I long for it. In search of freedom, adventure, the intensity of nature around you. Lived only by the animals’ instinct to migrate from north to south, from sea to inland, from summer to winter and vice versa.
Visiting the Nenets was a dream coming through. Living life in the white emptiness of Siberia, where the only sound you hear is of your own heart beating and the crispy snow under the feet of thousands of reindeer. The Nenet family I stayed with are the Ledkov brothers. Three brothers, two of them married, one with two children. Living in two mya’s (the name of the tents they live in), herding a thousand reindeer.
